This was a sweet and perfect end, Lee. I hope Miles continues his A-run in history!

Indeed. I'd like to think the boy will one day pass on the love of history to another generation. And Dr. Moody? Well, he's caught up with modern-day data management. Hurray!

I agree: every book should stand alone and have all the necessary parts, including the ending.

I agree re: cliffhangers. Books that end in cliffhangers make me feel cheated and much less likely to read someone's next book.

I read your answer and you did a much better job explaining why you didn't like cliffhangers.

No cliffhangers at the end of the book for sure. Don't ruin a book's ending with more questions than answers.

Oh, yes, and I do NOT like cliffhanger endings to stories! Chapters, yes, books/stories, no. Things can be left a little unresolved, especially in short stories, where it's common to have to use your imagination a bit to finish it off, but no suspenseful situations.

Nice conclusion to the tale! And after all my impatience, life got in the way and it took me this long to get here!

I do not like cliffhanger endings. Each book should build on the previous, but hopefully stand alone.

Great writing, as always, Lee.

Chapters are where cliffhangers should be. Thanks for a great post! Enjoy your Christmas!

You seem to be in the consensus when it comes to cliffhangers. Most of the blogs I've visited said they don't use them.

I'm okay with cliffhangers or tantalizing possibilities at the end of a book in a fantasy series. It's done a lot. Other books might not work as well without a satisfying, complete ending.

You definitely had endings in those books even as the stories were very connected.

I think that's the best for a series. I find I don't read the second book in a series if the writer is shouting "Buy book two!" Thanks for the visit, Diane.

I also agree Lately, I've noticed a lot of tv series that are at fault for leaving cliffhangers. I keep wondering if they realize how long we need to wait for premier of next season.

I know. I dread the end of a season!

I like my stories tied up with a solid ending as well.
